"Kinnaree" (video, 1998)

I intend to use this film to focus on the discourse of performing the body/identity. By using the images of boxing arena, boxing match, the contradictory body and appearance of Parinya Kiatbhusaba, the boxer whose known for his makeup and perform a female role outside the ring, and the voice of the cheering crowd fusing with traditional Thai music and the images of an exotic Thai classical dancer girl whose images become object of desire for the Western audience as well as the object of the male gaze, I attempt to suggest the troubles of a male space and male body, and the gender boundary that has been challenged by the body of Parinya as well as how his exotic body has become an object of desire that perhaps posing the different question from the old one .
